Doing a doctorate in the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences - The Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences welcomes your interest in doing a doctorate. What do you need to consider for a doctorate?
Previous education
The doctoral regulations of the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences (FB7) (German only) set out in "§4 Preliminary education" which requirements you must meet for a doctorate. Please clarify in advance with your supervisor and, if necessary, with the Dean's Office whether these legally binding requirements have been met.
Application for acceptance
Once you have found a doctoral topic and a supervisor, please submit an application for official acceptance as a doctoral candidate to the Dean's Office.
For this you will need
- completed application for acceptance
- required among other things: Information on previous education with proof of overall grade and grade of final thesis), curriculum vitae, ...)
- Copy of the supervision agreement between you and your supervisor
- Completed document for the state statistics.
If everything fits, you will receive a letter of official acceptance from the Dean.
You do not have to be enrolled as a doctoral student to do a doctorate in the department, unless you go through an aptitude assessment procedure. Of course, you can enrol to take advantage of the benefits as a student.
Doctoral phase
This is the phase in which you devote yourself entirely to your research topic (see II. Dissertation Doctoral Degree Regulations). As soon as the end of the doctorate is foreseeable, please refer to the current doctoral regulations and observe the points listed there regarding the admission procedure.
Admission procedure
Once you have completed your thesis, submit an application for admission to doctoral studies to the Dean's Office. This application sets the examination procedure in motion. Your submitted dissertation copies will be sent to the reviewers. Once the reviews have been received and displayed, the doctorate is completed with an oral defense.
If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Kammerer or Dr. Alt (secretariat or management FB NUW)
