Teacher training is of particular importance in the faculty
It offers students an excellent didactic and subject-specific education: In addition to a solid basic education, students can acquire key qualifications in modern specialisations through close links with research.
All of the teaching degree programmes listed below are offered for the following types of schools: Grundschule, Förderschule, Realschule plus and Gymnasium.
Language requirements
In Germany, people who want their teaching qualifications to be recognised must have the necessary written and spoken German language skills to practise their profession. All courses in our teaching degree programmes are taught in German.
Therefore, we recommend at least the Goethe Certificate C1 level at the beginning of the teacher training programme with the indication that the German language skills required for professional practice at level C2 should be acquired in the course of your studies.
General structure of the training programmes
The teacher training programmes consist of a Bachelor's and a Master's degree course. The six-semester Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) programme alone does not qualify students for the teaching profession. In the course of the Bachelor's degree programme, the final decision on a type of school must be made after the fourth semester; until then, the degree programme takes place across all types of schools.
In the first four semesters, the degree programme for primary school teaching comprises two general education subjects and the subject of educational science. From the fifth semester onwards, the subject of primary school education must be studied with the study areas of basic educational science, German, mathematics, foreign language education, science education and arts education as well as the compulsory elective area. With its extensive experience in teacher training, the RPTU in Landau offers the best conditions for a successful degree programme.
The teacher training-specific Master's degree programme, which lasts two semesters, builds on the Bachelor's degree programme. After successful completion of the programme, recognition as a "First State Examination" is issued upon application. This is the prerequisite for entering the preparatory service and obtaining the "Second State Examination". The curricular standards governing the degree programme guarantee the acquisition of standardised state qualifications in teacher training. As part of both degree programmes, a total of four school internships must be completed during the lecture-free periods.

In the first four semesters, the teaching degree programme for special needs schools comprises two general education subjects and the subject of educational science. From the fifth semester onwards, students must study the subject Fundamentals of Special Needs Education with the study areas Pedagogical and Sociological Foundations of Special Needs Education, Overview of Special Needs Education Areas and Supplementary Studies. After completing the Bachelor's degree programme, this overview enables students to choose two special educational support areas in the Master's degree programme based on their personal interests. These can be chosen freely and without placement restrictions. With its extensive experience in teacher training, the RPTU in Landau offers the best conditions for a successful degree programme.
The bachelor's degree is followed by a three-semester master's degree programme. The following specialisations are currently offered at our Landau site:
- Specialisation in learning
- Specialisation in social-emotional development
- Specialisation in physical development
- Specialisation in holistic development
- specialisation in language.
As part of the specialisations, students learn about a wide range of options for support, counselling, guidance and diagnostics. At the same time, students gain an insight into scientific work and scientific research methods. Students develop a research design on issues of inclusion, heterogeneity or participation in an application-oriented manner and in connection with their future field of practice as teachers, and also implement this plan. In doing so, they have contact with schools, teachers or extracurricular partners.
