Dr. Rebecca Froese

Rebecca Froese is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Center for Interdisciplinary Sustainability Research at the University of Münster, Germany at the Research Institute for Sustainability Helmholtz Centre Potsdam (RIFS). She pursued her PhD in Geography at the Department of Environmental Sciences and the Research Group Landuse Conflicts at the University of Koblenz-Landau (since 01/2023 the RPTU Kaiserlautern-Landau). Rebecca is also associated with the Peace Academy Rhineland-Palatinate and the Research Group Climate Change and Conflict (CLISEC) at the University of Hamburg.

Rebecca’s work focuses on social engagement for the social-ecological transformation, embedded in larger questions of justice, social cohesion, democracy, conflict transformation and the role of arts and culture in creating regenerative societies. One of her current projects focuses on the transformation within higher education institutions, another one explores artistic methods for the creation of dialogue spaces for conflict transformation amid the social-ecological transformation. Rebecca completed her PhD at the intersection of peace and conflict studies and environmental sciences on topics of social cohesion, land conflicts, and social-ecological tipping points in the southwestern Amazon.

Rebecca holds a Master's Degree in Integrated Climate System Sciences from the University of Hamburg and a Bachelor's Degree in Geoscience from the University of Bremen. Previously she also studied at the University of Victoria, Canada, worked as an intern with the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) in Brazil, and was a consultant in Belgrade, Serbia, and Hamburg, focusing on the topics of climate change, sustainability in cities, governance, conservation, biodiversity, and land use conflicts.
