TRICMA2 (Triple Crisis Meets Trilateral Cooperation)

Funded by NWO/BMFTR

TRICMA2is a bilateral Dutch-German research project funded by NWO and BMFTR. The project investigates the impacts of the triple crisis on ecological networks, ecological connectivity, and ecosystem functioning of salt marshes in Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands. The field-based approach will be complemented by targeted field and mesocosm experiments. Ecological connectivity will be assessed by studying movement patterns and habitat use of birds as key mobile link species.

TRICMA2 includes a strong societal component and actively involves stakeholders from nature conservation, coastal protection, agriculture, and tourism. Through joint activities involving scientists and secondary schools, TRICMA2 raises awareness among future generations of the ecological pressures affecting Wadden Sea ecosystems. Based on stakeholder input and newly generated scientific knowledge, the project will develop guiding principles for the sustainable management of salt marshes.

The project is carried out in close collaboration between partner institutions, including the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI), the Universities of Kiel, Hamburg, Münster, and Groningen.
