Lab Geoecology and Physical Geography

Scientific challenge:

The aim of our group is to contribute to the understanding and identification of the abiotic and biotic interactions that are most important at the landscape ecosystem level. Thus, we are particularly interested in the emerging effects between plants and soils at smaller scales and between individual ecosystems at larger scales. A particular focus is on the interface between terrestrial and aquatic systems as it applies to the whole institute. The research group pursues a problem-oriented approach that always takes the human dimension into account. The effects of land use and land use change are a major motivation for our research, which also includes biogeochemical and biogeographical aspects. Specific personal areas of expertise are best summarized by the terms greenhouse gases and invasive plant species, both with a focus on Europe. We are currently also involved in research in Brazil and Peru.
