Tree Material Molding

Project Description

The goal of this project is to replace existing thermoformed plastic components with energy- and resource-efficient alternatives made from biogenic byproduct streams. To achieve this, materials such as leaves and bark, sourced from local byproduct streams, are compressed into two- and three-dimensional products using thermal presses. These products are designed to be composted, converted into biogas, or recycled in line with the principles of a circular economy.

In Landau, the project focuses on an economic evaluation and the implementation of a lifecycle analysis to assess the effort and impact of a new product based on byproduct streams compared to conventional alternatives.

This collaborative project involves the RPTU in Landau, the DHBW Karlsruhe, and two industry partners: Karodur Wirkteller GmbH and Robert Kraemer GmbH & Co. KG.
