More Information

My research is concerned with multiple stressors in agricultural landscapes, with a focus on the effects of pesticides on terrestrial biodiversity. I am also working on ecological aspects and biogeographic patterns of ants in SE Asia and their use in conservation management.

I studied Biology at the Julius-Maximilians University Würzburg and Duke University (North Carolina, USA) with a focus on Tropical Biology and Animal Ecology and received in 2001 a PhD for my thesis on forest management impacts on ant biodiversity in tropical rain forests. I then worked in the Ecotoxicology department in the agrochemical industry in Switzerland and England.

Since 2006 I am leading the section on Community Ecology and Ecotoxicology at the Institute for Environmental Sciences of the University of Koblenz-Landau.

My habilitation summarises my recent research under the title "Agricultural landscapes, their biodiversity and impacts of pesticides".

I am involved in pesticide risk assessment development for various terrestrial groups as an external expert for EFSA (Environmental Food and Safety Agency, Europe) and in SETAC (Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry) working groups.I was a member of the working group on biodiversity in the agricultural landscape of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and serve currently in the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Government on the National Action Plan on Sustainable Use of Plant Protection Products at the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture.

I am the Program Coordinator of the international masters program Master of Science in Environmental Pollution Management - Department of Natural and Environmental Sciences at RPTU

On the ant side of things I am very proud to be part of ANeT, the International Network for the Study of Asian Ants, where I participate in the editorial board of the international journal ‘Asian Myrmecology’.
