ReactiveCity

A proactive city without biocides (Interreg-Project 2023-2027)

The ReactiveCity project aims at developing a strategy supported by various stakeholders to reduce harmful biocide emissions for a "permeable" city. The aim is to relieve the burden on rainwater collection and treatment plant infrastructures and meet the increasing demand for water to green urban areas.

The project is designed to develop, disseminate and permanently establish practical and transferable knowledge at the level of urban areas in the Upper Rhine that wish to integrate the reduction of biocides into their climate change adaptation plan.

This project idea follows on from the "NAVEBGO" project, which was concluded at the end of September 2022. The previous project highlighted the little-known problem of facade biocides and helped to rethink the design of permeable cities. The new project takes this issue one step further by extending the problem to the various biocide sources and all environmental compartments and key players. The working group of the RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau is mainly involved in ecotoxicological assessments.
