We seek highly motivated students, interested in working on environmentally relevant problems using an interdisciplinary approach. As we have many more applications than spaces, we select students on the basis of their qualifications.

You require a Bachelor degree in Environmental Sciences (or equivalent program with a focus on natural sciences and applied mathematics) with a minimum final grade of “good” (e.g., 2.5 on a 5.0 point scale with 5.0 being the worst grade or 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale with 4.0 being the best grade). For international students, this qualification is checked by the external institution uni-assist. Please note that uni-assist provides all further information on higher education entrance qualification in Germany.

Due to the high expectations of the program, we also require evidence of university-level courses in biology, chemistry and maths/statistics. We have developed an Online Self-Assessment course that helps you in checking whether you meet the requirements, and provides materials for self-study in case of gaps.

The Program runs in English, therefore, good active and passive English language skills are essential. Proficiency in German is not a requirement for your application, although we recommend learning some basic German for your daily life. In Germany, people often can speak English, but a basic grasp of German will help make life easier in every-day situations.

The program starts in the winter semester (October). The deadline for applications from students who completed their Bachelor degree outside of the European Union is 15 June. For those who completed their degree within the European Union, the deadline is 15 July. If you obtained your degree in Germany, the deadline is 15 September.

If you are a non-EU resident, please note that the process of checking documents is very time consuming. The university can only make a decision on your admission after all your documents have been cleared by uni-assist. This takes about six weeks. We therefore strongly advise you to apply well before the deadline to ensure that you receive your admission letter in time to start the visa process. Please also check the visa processing duration with your German Embassy.

Students with a German Bachelor degree must apply via the Student Registration Office ("Studierendensekretariat") at the University of Koblenz-Landau. Please note that if you are a German national who received a Bachelor degree outside of Germany, you will also need to apply through uni-assist (please refer to the international student application process).

The university opens application for the winter term around June.

Students must use the university application portal. You will receive a list of required documents after making an online application. For further information, please refer to the application website. For questions regarding your application, contact the Student Registration Office.

If admitted, you must still enrol at the University of Koblenz-Landau. Enrolment can be done in person or by mail, for the latter you have to send the requested documents. Personal enrolment takes place at the Student Registration Office, Marie-Curie-Str. 5a, Landau.

We highly recommend you submit your application as early as possible, as visa processes can be lengthy and in several cases, students who applied late, were unable to obtain a visa in time to commence their studies.

The Welcome Center will assist you with questions on the application process, visa application and entry requirements, fees and funding, accommodation, health insurance and the first steps after your arrival.

Enrolment will be done on campus during the Welcome Days, which take place at the beginning of the winter semester in October.
